Sam and Dean were indeed able to rid themselves of the yellow-eyed demon and get their dad out of hell, but at a horrible cost, as the second season came to an end. After Sam was killed, Dean made a deal with the crossroads demon, exchanging his soul for Sam's life. In fact, Dean has only one year to live before the demon comes calling. Dean and the newly revived Sam manage to defeat the demon, but in the process hundreds of demons are released from hell. This season, all hell really will break loose as the boys attempt to do damage control. In the meantime, Dean's going to live up his last year, eating as many hot fudge sundaes and having as much sex as he can manage. This season Sam and Dean will face challenges, Grimms' fairy tales come to life, and a couple of recurring female characters will keep them on their toes.The Outlook: As the producers opened up Sam and Dean's world a bit, it was another good season. Even better was the series finale, which solved one problem for the boys in getting rid of the demon that killed their mother, but at the cost of a greater problem. They had enough trouble killing one demon. Killing 300 should keep them busy this year. And with Dean's life expectancy down to one year, it puts a natural clock on Supernatural, which will set up the end of the season nicely. While the ratings weren't as good as Smallville's, they were respectable considering the timeslot puts them up against C.S.I. and Grey's Anatomy. Even though the series was on the fence last season as to whether it would be renewed this year, Supernatural should get a full season. After that it will depend on what The CW has on its programming slate. Most likely they will be looking to replace the series, unless the ratings get stronger.
